About The Studio
NEMO’s Studio gives you a look into the future by enabling you to experience and design it yourself. This off-site location is a laboratory where we cooperate with partners and the public on devising low-threshold and interactive programmes related to scientific and technological developments.
The Studio’s set-up is a perfect match for the innovative vibe at the Marineterrein location, a place where organizations and researchers work together to find solutions to social challenges and to create a sustainable environment.
A circular building
The Studio is the former gym of the Netherlands Marine Corps. While it was being refurbished, every effort was made to work as sustainably as possible, because circularity is key for The Studio. For instance, the offices are furnished with 100% recycled furniture. A mosque is now making use of the previous emergency lighting fittings, while the modular ceilings have been given a new lease of life in a school and in various offices. The frames and the door have been installed at the Amsterdam University of the Arts, while the old gym equipment is now being used by the Codam Coding College. The venue also features a 100% recyclable floor and pay-per-use lighting.
