Conference Teaching & Technology

The online conference Teaching & Technology – Lessons on Space & Art took place on March 10th. The participants were all over the Netherlands ánd Europe, and were mostly teachers in primary education and museumprofessionals.

New technology is developing rapidly. But what can you use in the classroom? And how do you implement it in your museum? During this conference we got started with virtual reality in school and learned what to pay attention to when designing an exhibit with augmented reality. Via this link you'll find an illustrated overview of the afternoon.

Workshops
There were workshops for museum professionals, teachers and both. All workshops below were given in English.

AR, MR, VR in museum education
MonA is an Erasmus+ project about Museopedagogy and Augmented reality. The project partners created a guide to museum education with the use of modern technology. This elaborate guide gives teachers and museum professionals an insight in these new technologies and how to use them. In this interactive workshop we explored the difference between VR, AR and MR, tried out some good practices of museums and discussed how to use this knowledge in thinking about future product development.

Creating VR-tours for museums

Virtual tours enable people to visit museums via the internet. For school children they can be an inspiring introduction to a museum. In the workshop we discussed the development process, the do's and don’ts and ofcourse we took a look in a VR-tour!

Augmenting Stories
This workshop showed an example of applying augmented reality within a traditional museum context. The example features an exhibition about the history of Reykjavik in which a traditional scale model of the city center is brought to life with the use of augmented reality. While bringing in media, it respects the intrinsic nature of the model as the star object in the space. In the workshop the participants applied the design principles from this project to an object near themselves.

Ars Electronica in Linz - Deep Space 8k, an immersive museum experience
In the keynote of this conference we payed a virtual visit to Ars Electronica in Linz and immersed ourselves in other worlds via their Deep Space 8K presentation room. In the workshop Deep Space that followed, they showed us how to make museum visitors experience and mix art, music, science. Want to take a look at their museum? Visit their website.

This conference is made possible by ESERO, NEMO Science Museum and the Erasmus+ programme MoNa.
