Can you see what you hear?

Things that make sounds cause the air to vibrate. Our ears detect these vibrations and translate them into sound. You can hear sound, of course, but you can also feel it. Just place your hand against your throat when you’re talking, and you will feel it vibrate.

You can also make sound visible. If you rub a wet finger around the rim of a glass of water, the glass vibrates and you hear a humming sound. You can also see the glass’s vibrations on the surface of the water.
