Exhibition: Game On

Video games are now bigger than the film and music industries combined. But how are they affecting us? In this exhibition, you can explore how games are changing the way we play, socialise and express ourselves. It’s designed for both seasoned gamers and people who’ve never held a controller before. From 11 July, on the second floor in the Theatre.

Demo: The AI Challenge

Who is real and who is created by AI? In this challenge, you’ll meet six gamers ready to play an online game. There is only one real person hidden among these digital players.

Can you uncover the AI gamers? Look closely, compare what you see, and discover how to tell the difference between what’s real and what’s fake.

Multiple times a day until 26 July, in Dutch.

Three special workshops at The Makery

Send a secret message, create a short film or make your own 'ghost' appear.

  • A girl puts a giraffe and a lamp in front of a mirror

    Play with reflections

You generally use a mirror to look at yourself. But did you know that you can also use reflections to do all kinds of experiments? Play with reflections and make your own 'ghost' appear.

  • A girl looks at an information board and pushes a button

    Speak in code

Using short and long signals and the Morse code alphabet, you can make letters to send messages to each other. You can even operate a train using Morse code!

  • A boy and a man look smiling at a small zoetrope

    Make a short film

Your brain merges several images when you see them in very quick succession: they appear to move. Try it yourself! Using a special spinning cylinder with vertical cuts, the zoetrope, and lots of drawings, you can make your own short film.

Science Live: Discover your brain

Your brain is always active. It helps you pay attention, react quickly, switch between tasks and ignore distractions. How does that work? At Science Live, from 4 to 10 July, you can take part in research and activities about the brain.

Your brain in action

Do fun thinking games and challenges while scientists from Amsterdam UMC Research measure which parts of your brain are active.

Meet a brain researcher

Curious about how brain research works? See how scientists measure brain activity, try a task yourself and ask your questions directly to a real researcher.
