The baby of the future

Just imagine that scientists could create egg and sperm cells from your blood, or from your urine. We call this IVG. These cells could eventually grow into a baby. This would mean that anyone could have a child. Young or old, man or woman, sick or healthy. What would you think of that?

Share your thoughts on new research

The Baby of the Future is a temporary exhibition by the Rathenau Institute at NEMO. In this research space, you will discover what might be possible in the future with cells created in the laboratory. For example, scientists can create egg and sperm cells from your blood or urine. We call this IVG. Think about the pros and cons of IVG. Share your opinion by sticking stickers.

The Rathenau Institute

This is an initiative of the Rathenau Institute. Rathenau explores the perspectives in society on egg- and sperm cells created in the lab. Society should have a say in the development of this technology. This research is part of HipGametes: a big research project on IVG, in which scientists, ethicists, and lawyers are also contributing.
