About the film
Watch the trailer
Italy, late 1800s. A group of young women living in a convent and orphanage are given the opportunity to attend music lessons. They form a choir so talented that it merits a visit from the Pope himself, and work is begun on a new choral work to welcome his Holiness. Despite their undeniable talent, the women are dismissed, and their ambitions lead to a clash with the patriarchy of 19th-century Italy.
Gloria!
Gloria! is a feminist costume drama and musical comedy, directed by actor and singer-songwriter Margherita Vicario. The music of protagonist Lucia, sung by Vicario herself, is inspired by the 18th-century composer Maddalena Laura Lombardini Sirmen, whose work has been largely lost to time. Gloria! is an ode to women composers, many of whom never received the recognition they deserved.
Film on the roof
On 28, 29 and 30 August, NEMO’s newly renovated rooftop square will be transformed into an open-air cinema. Designed by architect Renzo Piano, this 'piazza' is the perfect backdrop to an Italian film weekend.
