NEMO Science Museum attracts 640,000 visitors in 2025

Amsterdam, 18 December 2025

A year full of connections between science, technology and society.

NEMO Science Museum looks back on a successful year. The museum expects to welcome 640,000 visitors in 2025. In addition, more than 300,000 people visited the renovated, sustainable roof terrace. NEMO also reached a large audience outside the museum walls and online. Visitors rate NEMO with an 8 or higher, with the friendliness of staff, the varied offering and the iconic Chain Reaction demonstration being mentioned as particular highlights.

Opening of the new Roof Terrace with Mayor Halsema

On 22 May 2025, Mayor Femke Halsema opened NEMO's new roof terrace, a gift to the city on the occasion of its 750th anniversary. The roof is a green meeting place where nature and technology come together. The roof is accessible free of charge and offers a unique view of Amsterdam. In the summer, it serves as an open-air stage for films, music, theatre and knowledge sharing.

‘Last year, NEMO was meaningful to many people. We have lots of exciting things in store for 2026,’ says Géke Roelink, director of NEMO Science Museum. ‘The new year will be all about playing and learning through play. Mary Flanagan, scientist, game designer and artist, will deliver the Technology Address. We will also create more space to experience science and technology in new ways by extending our opening hours. Together with organisations, artists and communities, we will broaden and deepen our offering.’

Preview to 2026: Space for new experiences in the evenings

In 2026, NEMO will open its doors especially for adults with a series of evening programmes. During these evenings, current themes from science and technology will be explored from multiple angles, in collaboration with various partners. From small exhibitions and performances to films, science quizzes, music and lectures. Programmes are scheduled for February, March and April, such as:

  • 12 Februari: You're too cute to be an astronaut – a theatre performance by actress Judy Lijdsman about the story of Judy Resnik, NASA's second female astronaut. (in Dutch)
  • 26 March: Inspiration evening with New Scientist.
  • 9 April: An evening dedicated to mental resilience.
